Replace worn rear brake pads.
Variation of Brake Pad Replacement
Brake pads consist of friction material that is bonded to a sturdy steel backing plate. When you push on the brake pedal, the friction material on the brake pads is forced against the inner and outer surfaces of the steel brake rotor under tremendous pressure. The resulting friction causes the wheels on your car to slow rapidly allowing for a quick, safe and controlled stop.
Ignoring your rear brakes is a gamble that eventually leads to a much higher repair bill. If you let the pads wear down to the metal, they will quickly destroy your brake rotors, which are far more expensive to replace than the pads themselves. Beyond the cost, worn pads significantly increase your stopping distance. In an emergency situation on a rain-slicked road, that extra meter of sliding could be the difference between a close call and an expensive accident.
Driving a vehicle with a known deficiency in the braking system is unsafe. Worn out brake pads can increase stopping distances.
