Overview

A General Car Inspection (often referred to as a 50-Point Inspection) is a comprehensive physical and digital "health check" for your vehicle. Rather than waiting for a warning light to appear or a part to fail, this service proactively examines every critical system—from the internal health of your battery to the thickness of your brake pads. In South Africa's varied driving conditions, where your car may face extreme heat, dusty gravel roads, and heavy stop-start traffic, this inspection acts as an early warning system. It translates complex mechanical conditions into an easy-to-understand report, ensuring your car remains a reliable companion for your daily commute or long-distance trips

What is inspected

The inspection covers 50 specific points across five major categories to ensure no stone is left unturned:

  • Under the Hood: A deep dive into engine health. This includes checking the condition and levels of your Oil, Coolant, Brake Fluid, and Power Steering Fluid. Mechanics also inspect Drive Belts for cracks and Hoses for any signs of perishing or leaks.
  • Battery & Electrical: A specialized tester is used to check your battery's State of Health (SoH) and its ability to hold a charge. All exterior lights (headlights, indicators, brake lights) and interior electronics are verified for proper operation
  • Undercarriage & Suspension: While the car is raised, the mechanic checks for leaks in the transmission and differential. They also inspect Shock Absorbers, Ball Joints, and Control Arm Bushings for excessive play or wear.
  • Brakes & Tyres: A visual and measured check of Brake Pad thickness and Disc/Rotor condition. Tyres are inspected for tread depth, "cupping" patterns, and overall age (perishing).
  • Safety & Interior: Verification of essential safety items like Seat Belts, Wipers, Horn (Hooter), and Air Conditioning performance.

Keep in mind:

The vehicle will be assigned various ratings between good and bad to determine the health of your vehicle, which allows you to quickly determine how your vehicle stacks up with other similar vehicles.

How important is this service?

Having a vehicle inspected on a regular basis will give you peace of mind and ensure that the vehicle is running at optimal levels. Regular inspections can also spot minor issues that could eventually turn into major repairs.
