Power steering fluid is leaking Inspection

Power steering fluid is leaking Inspection Service

If you suspect a leak from the steering assist system, it’s probably because you’ve begun to hear a whirring or siren-like sound from the steering pump as it runs low on fluid. You might already be topping up the fluid reservoir as its level drops.

Or perhaps you’ve seen spots on the garage floor or parking spot, and determined that these are not simply oil leaks from the engine. The position of the drops will be very similar in either case, but the smell and consistency of hydraulic fluid and oil are distinguishable by experienced mechanics.

Common reasons for this to happen:

Fluid can leak from several places in the steering system. The following 4 areas are the most common sources of leaks.

Power steering pump: The power steering pump is driven off the car’s engine. Pump seals can become damaged due to contact with dirty fluid or they can become fatigued from thousands of miles of use. Power steering hoses: The lines that run from the pump to the steering rack, or gear, are another possible problem area, particularly where the high-pressure hose mates with the metal fittings. Power steering rack or gear: The steering rack itself can lose fluid from its own seals. Power steering cooler: To complicate matters, some assisted steering mechanisms have coolers, which bring additional plumbing and potential for leaks. These coolers are often mounted in the front of the car, where damage can occur.

What to expect:

A top-rated mobile mechanic will come to your home or office to determine the source and cause of the power steering fluid leak, and will then provide a detailed inspection report that includes the scope and cost of the necessary repairs.

How it’s done:

The mechanic will check the entire power steering system to identify the source of leak.

How important is this service?

Have the car inspected promptly if you spot a steering system leak. This issue demands detective work to determine exactly what needs to be repaired, and something like a steering rack replacement is serious work. Book a mechanic to perform a thorough diagnosis before the steering system incurs further damage

What our customers have to say about Fixxr

Osweld Dube Prompt and Insightful

Monday July 28, 2025 I requested a quote to replace Brakes on my car and was booked immediately for 11:30am. Osweld arrived 30 minutes before and was helpful when I did not have the correct parts. Having spent the entire day to get the correct parts and do the replacement. Although I was not present during the replacement, my husband was, and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. Fantastic Service. I would hope to have him as the mechanic in my next round of repair/replacements.
